Here are some interesting facts about HIV that you might not know…

You can ask your doctor for an HIV test.  While HIV is not included in all routine testing, you are able to ask your doctor to check your status each time you go in for your yearly physical. 

You can have your HIV test results in as little as 15 minutes.  It is important to know your HIV status so you can keep yourself and your loved ones healthy.  Waiting for test results can be worrying.  The Florida Department of Health in Collier County offers confidential rapid HIV testing, and results take only 15 minutes.

There is still no cure for HIV/AIDS.  While there is currently no cure for HIV or AIDS with proper medical treatment it can be controlled.    Those with HIV who take their treatment the right way can prolong their lives, keep healthy, and greatly reduce the risk of infecting others.

Every 9 ½ minutes someone in the United States is infected with HIV.  And 1 in 7people don’t know they are infected with HIV.  It’s spread mainly by having unprotected sex or sharing needles with someone who is infected with HIV.  The CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care. Knowing your HIV status gives you powerful information to help you takes steps to stay healthy.
