“It’s Tooth Time!” is a comprehensive oral hygiene education program offered by the Florida Department of Health in Collier County tailored to specific age groups and requestor needs. This 30-minute presentation includes a general explanation of how to maintain good oral hygiene habits in a fun and light-hearted way while also strongly focusing on whole body health.
The most age-appropriate groups are elementary school-aged children. However, other ages can be catered to as well.
Hands on activities, videos, songs, and/or PowerPoint are all ways the presentation can be given. A customized approach is always available. Healthy dental aids such as toothbrushes, flossers, and toothpaste are given out at the end of each presentation.
Students will learn about:
- Cavity and plaque prevention
- Proper brushing and flossing
- Smart food choices
- Dental decay and fluoride
- Dental visits
Key Oral Health Tips
- Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
- Floss between your teeth daily
- Eat a balanced and healthy diet that limits sugary beverages and snacks
- See your dentist regularly for prevention and treatment of oral disease
Help Prevent Tooth Decay
- Brush your teeth at least twice daily
- Floss in between your teeth daily
- Eat nutritious and balanced meals
- Talk to your dentist about the use of fluoride. Fluoride is used to strengthen your teeth
- Check with your dentist about the use of dental sealants (a plastic protective coating) applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (where decay often starts) to protect your teeth from decay
- Regularly visit your dentist for cleanings and oral examination
